The Wakarusa Music Festival is a four-day festival which is located in the Ozark Mountains of Arkansas. The festival began in the summer of 2004 and has slowly grown into one of the biggest drawing music festivals. This year Wakarusa takes place May 31st till June 3rd.
Well last night was the annual Pi Kappa Alpha parent auction and whenever you mix, pikes, parents, and booze you get one crazy night. Every year my fraternity hosts a parent auction to raise money for our house, in which parents bring in baskets to auction off. The baskets range from 30 cases of Busch Light to Bear-Packer tickets.
Well this year the auction took place at the new U-Hotel here in Charleston, pretty nice looking hotel, and about 60 people participated in all. The night began as usual drinking, eating, and meeting family and friends. When the auction began, some of the most expensive baskets included two Bear-Packer tickets for $600, an autographed Patrick Sharp jersey for $500, two Chicago Bull tickets for $450, and varioud handles of liquor for $200.
After the auction concluded, the real fun began. Two drunk buses came and picked everyone up from the hotel and took us to Marty's. The booze was flowing, parents getting drunk, pikes getting drunk, and random people dancing. After about one hour or so, the crew trecked down to Stu's to rage.
At Stu's total drinks for each parent and pike were starting to reach double digits and everyone was having a great time. Shots after shots being consumed, time flew by and it was time to dip out. But a lot of parents wanted to stay longer and that they did. Small groups of parents and pikes gathered and talked till at least 1:30 A.M. well past bar closing.
Finally, they got all of us out of there and somehow everyone found a ride back to hotel and it was an epic parent auction.
It was a little combo of this, but drunk pikes and parents
Well after three kind of unsuccessful runs at sports anchoring, I finally had a flawless one. The day started off as any other Friday, sports producing, sports writing, and editing video. But finally there was no home basketball games on the day before I sports anchor, which means no fucking play-by-play. To add to that, my boss left on another Friday, which means the pressure was off. She has never been in the control room when I anchor, which could be good or bad, not sure though.
When it was showtime, I was ready to kill it and killed it I did. Every story that I read was flawless with no stumbles or butched words. I felt my pacing was a little fast, but when I caught myself I slowed down. I was looking fresh on cam, with my purple shirt and tie. So overall, definitly a resume builder to add to my collection of videos and producing samples.
With the most epic night in American athletics just getting done, the Super Bowl, thought I was would pick a couple of my favorite commercials. Since my beloved Chicago Bears were not in the big game, I gave zero fucks about the game and only cared about the commercials.
1. This commercial for some odd reason was my favorite one from the Super Bowl. From the beginning, the commercial caught my attention with the name of Mr. Quiggly, which is pretty random. Then when the dogs shot out of the gate he fell far behind but then the little dog used some super turbo to jump ahead. The ending was the best when the dog stoped and then moon walked across the finish line to the song "Wild Thing."
2. From the beginning I knew it would be a good commercial since Bud Light was making it and it being my favorite "light" beer. I was pretty funny to see such a small dog bringing out bottles of Bud Light to whomever called his name "Here We Go." The icing on the cake was at the end, when the dog rolled out a keg for all the people coming to the party.
After a week off to go get drunk down at Southern Illinois, I was back at the sports anchoring grind on Friday. Two weeks ago, I felt that I was slowly improving on my achoring skills, but still did not feel the need to practice too much. But after Friday's performance, I think I need to practice outside of work and before the preshow.
Everything was going smoothly with sports producing as it always does. I had a decent size sports block with a package about Eastern Illinois' new soccer recruits, men's and women's basketball, and of course a play-by-play of this past Thurday's Eastern Illinois men's basketball team.
Finished everything well before five o'clock, got ready, then headed down to the studio to kill it. As soon as it was my time to shine, I read the first story perfectly. But then the dreaded play-by-play came and of couse I stumbled. Right before going off cam, I dropped my script about the plays to be read. I recovered, picked them back up, and stumbled through the play-by-play. Since I don't give two fucks about Eastern Illinios athletics I do not know any of the athletes' names.
I believe if it was professional sports or even top tier collegiate athletics I would know all the athletes and would be able to ad lib the whole thing. But whatever, got through the rest of the show, and drank afterwards so it was all good.
